From Madison reading Cato and Cicero when framing the Constitution to the outsized impact both Rome and America had on the world around them, the United States has long been associated with historical Rome. There are great similarities, and there can be much to learn—and what’s happening now does not reflect well on either historical Rome or America.
When most of us think of the worst emperors in Roman history we think of names like Commodus, Nero, Caligula, and Elagabalus. To a man they were vain, self-centered, bloodthirsty hedonists who took what they wanted and tortured and killed many thousands of Romans and provincials.
All emperors, including the great ones like Augustus, Trajan, and Aurelian had blood on their hands to one degree or another but most tried to maintain or grow the empire. Commodus et al didn’t. Their goal was to satiate their lusts, whether literal lust or gluttony or, sadly, bloodlust. While there were other bad emperors, these four are among the worst.
What makes this relevant today is the fact that all four of these “men” were spoiled, pampered, entitled sadists who were given free rein when they were still essentially children. Commodus was the oldest at 19, while Nero was 17, and both Elagabalus and Caligula were 16.
They were overindulged brats who never faced consequences for their behavior. They were given virtually anything they wanted or, just as often, allowed to take what they wanted with impunity. And at those ripe young ages, and with that upbringing, they were literally given the keys to the kingdom and unleashed on the Empire—and virtually everyone in it suffered as a result.
Every day in America we see modern-day Commoduses or Caligulas wreaking havoc on our streets and in our stores, restaurants, schools, and more. Instead of a single entitled Emperor, America in 2022 is being ravaged by a generation of young men—many of whom have grown up fatherless—who have been told that they can do and say anything they want and that, regardless of what they do, there will be no consequences for them.
Just as Elagabalus et al brought nothing but blood, despair, and dysfunction to the Empire, these 21st-century youth are bringing blood, despair, and destruction to America. A generation of Americans has grown up being given “time outs”, “participation trophies,” and grades that have nothing to do with actual academic success, while at the same time they’ve been told that all inequality is due to racism, sexism, homophobia, or anything other than individual choices or actions.
The consequence of this indoctrination is that far too many young Americans think they can do anything with impunity. If they want something they take it. If they’re mad about something they protest, disrupt the lives of everyone within shouting distance, and frequently riot. They assault, rape and, sometimes, even murder, increasingly with impunity.
Pat Moynihan predicted much of this 60 years ago in his “The Negro Family: The Case for National Action.” In it he “…described through pages of disquieting charts and graphs, the emergence of a “tangle of pathology,” including delinquency, joblessness, school failure, crime, and fatherlessness that characterized ghetto—or what would come to be called underclass—behavior.”
While most of the scenes of flash mobs, carjackings, Knock Out Game punches, subway shovings, and daily shootings involve black male youth, this is not a race issue. Yes, the problem is disproportionately black, but White and Hispanic America is increasingly experiencing the same challenges of unwed mothers, school failures, and the lack of responsibility that underpins much of the dysfunction.
An emergency stockpile can greatly increase your chance of survival if Shit Hit The Fan. But creating a stockpile can easily drain your grocery budget if you’re not careful.
Luckily, some of the best foods for stockpiling are extremely cheap, so you can buy them in quantities enough to last you several months. Here are some examples of cheap foods to stockpile:
Rice – Rice is a staple food worldwide. It is also a versatile ingredient as it can be paired with various foods or cooked with various ingredients. When stored in an airtight container, rice keeps for six months. Rice is also cheap when bought in bulk.
Pinto beans – Pinto beans can be cooked in bulk and used in soups and salads. Pinto beans are a cheap way to keep bellies full, too, since they are rich in carbohydrates, fiber and protein. Like rice, they will also keep for several months if stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry pantry. Buy pinto beans in bulk to save money.
Lentils – Lentils are another legume that should be part of your emergency stockpile. They give you lots of calories, carbohydrates, protein and dietary fiber. Lentils are typically used in soups. But they also make great additions in potato salads, roasted vegetable salads, curries, and other savory dishes.
Oil – Don’t forget to stock up on oil since you’ll need it to cook. Having oil on hand will also give you more variety since you can use it to make marinades, sauces and salad dressings. Choose healthy oils, such as coconut, sesame and olive oils.
Flour – Bread is a staple in various diets worldwide. But bread can quickly go bad and moldy. So instead of buying ready-made bread, stock up on bags of flour. Flour is the single most important baking ingredient. If you have flour, you can make whatever bread or pastry you want.
Cornmeal – Cornmeal is the main ingredient in cornbread, a staple in Native American diets. Cornbread will sustain you in a pinch. You can also use cornmeal to bread fish and chicken. (Related: Have a taste of frontier survival cooking with cornmeal pancakes.)
Chickpeas – Chickpeas or garbanzo beans are a staple in the Mediterranean diet. Like other beans, chickpeas are also high in protein and dietary fiber. Buy chickpeas in bulk and store them in airtight containers for long-term storage.
Pasta – Pasta is a good source of carbohydrates. Pasta also makes a great vehicle for hearty sauces, meat and dehydrated vegetables, among other ingredients. Because pasta is dried, it can keep up to two years past the expiration date printed on the packaging. Opened dry pasta will keep for one year.
Oats – Old-fashioned rolled oats are a pantry staple. You can buy them in large bags and store them in a cool, dry place for long-term storage. Oats are also a versatile ingredient. You can use them to make overnight oats, no-bake granola bars and muffins, to name a few.
Powdered milk – Forget about stocking up on cow’s milk, which will inevitably go bad even when unopened. Stock up on powdered milk instead. You can use powdered milk to make all sorts of ingredients, such as evaporated milk, coffee creamer, yogurt, hot chocolate and cottage cheese.
Meat – Meat can still be part of an emergency stockpile. For long-term storage, you can either cure meat with salt or portion it into airtight containers and place them in the freezer. You can also dry meat to make your own jerky. Check with your local grocery store or butcher for money-saving deals and promos.
Dried foods – Don’t forget to add dried fruits, vegetables and herbs to your emergency stockpile. These foods ensure you still get to eat healthy foods when Shit Hit The Fan. The best part is, you can dehydrate foods yourself. Stalky and starchy foods, such as potatoes, carrots and unripe bananas, are great for dehydrating. Follow this guide to dehydrate your own foods.
Millions of Americans remain subjected to unprecedented restrictions on their personal lives, their daily lives, their family’s lives.
The coronavirus lockdowns continue in many places. You may not know that because it gets no publicity, but it’s true. And if you’re living under it, you definitely know.
As a result of this, tens of millions of people are now unemployed. A huge number of them have no prospects of working again.
Many thousands of small businesses are closed and will never reopen. More Americans have become dependent on drugs and alcohol, seeing their marriages dissolve, and become clinically depressed.
Some of them delayed their weddings. Others were banned by the government from burying their loved ones in funerals.
Some Americans will die of cancer because they couldn’t get cancer screenings, some unknown number have taken their own lives in despair.
Others have flooded the streets to riot because bottled up rage and frustration take many forms.
The cost of shutting down the United States and denying our citizens desperately needed contact with one another is hard to calculate. But the cost has been staggering.
The people responsible for doing all of this, say they have no regrets about it. We faced a global calamity, they say. COVID-19 was the worst pandemic since the Spanish flu. That flu killed 50 million people.
We had no choice. We did the right thing. That’s what they’re telling us. Is it true?
The answer to that question matters, not just because the truth always matters, but because the credibility of our leaders is at stake here.
This is the biggest decision they have made in our lifetimes. They were able to make it. They rule because we let them. Their power comes from us.
As a matter of public health, we can say conclusively the lockdowns were not necessary.
So the question, now and always is, are they worthy of that power?
That’s not a conversation they want to have. And right now, they don’t have to have that conversation because all of us are distracted and mesmerized by the woke revolution underway outside.
They just created a separate country in Seattle. Huh? We’ll bring you the latest on that. But we do think it’s worth four minutes taking a pause to assess whether or not they were in fact lying to us about the coronavirus and our response to it.
And the short answer is this: Yes, they were definitely lying.
As a matter of public health, we can say conclusively the lockdowns were not necessary. In fact, we can prove that.
And here’s the most powerful evidence: States that never locked down at all – states where people were allowed to live like Americans and not cower indoors alone – in the end turned out no worse than states that had mandatory quarantines. The state you probably live in.
The states that locked down at first but were quick to reopen have not seen explosions of coronavirus cases. All of this is the opposite of what they said would happen with great confidence.
The media predicted mass death at places like Lake of the Ozarks and Ocean City, Md. – places where the middle class dares to vacation. But those deaths never happened.
In the end, the Wuhan coronavirus turned out to be a dangerous disease, but a manageable disease, like so many others. Far more dangerous were the lockdowns themselves.
For example, in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, panicked and incompetent governors forced nursing homes to accept infected coronavirus patients, and as a result, many thousands died, and they died needlessly.
This is all a remarkable story, but it’s going almost entirely uncovered. The media would rather tell you why you need to hate your neighbor for the color of his skin.
The media definitely don’t want to revisit what they were saying just a few weeks ago, when they were acting as press agents for power-drunk Democratic politicians.
We were all played. Corrupt politicians scared us into giving up control over the most basic questions in our lives.
At the same time, they gave more power to their obedient followers, like Antifa, while keeping the rest of us trapped at home and censored online.
Back then, news anchors were ordering you to stop asking questions and obey.
Chris Cuomo, CNN anchor: All right, so while most Americans are staying inside – or should be, right, if they’re not out protesting like fools – they’re not happy about being told to stay home. Staying home saves lives.
And the rest of us should be staying at home for our mothers and the people that we love, and to keep us farther apart, will ultimately bring us closer together in this cause.
Oh, if you love your mother, you will do what I say. It turns out cable news anchors don’t make very subtle propagandists.
And then Memorial Day arrived in May, and some states started to reopen. Millions of grateful Americans headed outdoors for the first time in months, and the media attacked them for doing that. They called them killers.
Swimming with your kids, they told us, was tantamount to mass murder.
Claire McCaskill, MSNBC political analyst: Frankly, a lot of the people in those crowds – they thought they were, you know, standing up for what the president believes in and that is not to care about the public safety part of this.
Robyn Curnow, CNN host: Look at this. I mean, this is kind of crazy, considering we’re in the middle of a global pandemic.
I mean, as one person quipped, you know, that’s curving the curve. That’s not flattening it.
Don Lemon, CNN anchor: Massive crowd of people crammed together, as if it were just an ordinary holiday weekend despite the risks of a virus that has killed more than 98,000 people.
Boy that montage was the opposite of a MENSA meeting. Has that much dumbness been captured on tape ever?
The last clip you saw was from May 25th. That was just over two weeks ago. “Ninety eight thousand people are dead. How dare you leave your house? You don’t work in the media. You’re not essential.”
But it didn’t take long for that message to change completely. In fact, it took precisely five days.
Here’s the same brain dead news anchor you just saw less than a week later. He is no longer angry, you’ll notice, about Americans going outside.
As long as they are rioting and burning and not doing something sinful, like swimming with their children, he is delighted by it.
Lemon: And let’s not forget, if anyone is judging this – I’m not judging this, I’m just wondering what is going on.
Because we were supposed to figure out this experiment a long time ago. Our country was started because – this is how: the Boston Tea Party. Rioting.
So don’t – do not get it twisted and think that, oh, this is something that has never happened before. And then this is so terrible, and where are we in these savages and all of that. This is how this country was started.
Yes, don’t judge. This is how this country was started – by looting CVS and setting fire to Wendy’s. Of course, you took American History. You knew that.
Andrew Cuomo’s brother must have been in the same history class because he had the same reaction.
Chris Cuomo: America’s major cities are filled with people demanding this country be more fair, more just.
And please, show me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite and peaceful.
Because I can show you that outraged citizens are the ones who have made America what she is and led to any major milestones.
They are here to yell, criticize, blame, and shame.
Citizens have no duty to check their outrage.
Wow. So, one minute they were mass murderers for going outside. Now, they’re Sam Adams. They’re patriots. They’re American heroes.
If all of this seems like a pretty abrupt pivot, fret not. Rioting is not a health risk as long as it helps the Democratic Party’s prospects in the November election. Rioting will not spread the coronavirus.
Sounds implausible, but we can be certain of that, because last week, hundreds of self-described public health officials signed a letter saying so.
They announced that the Black Lives Matter riots are a vital contribution to public health. In effect, they’re an essential medical procedure.
But that doesn’t mean you get to go outside. You don’t.
Thanks to coronavirus, you do not have the right to resume your life, and if you complain about that, it’s “white nationalism.” That was their professional conclusion.
Does a single American believe any of that? No, of course not. It is too stupid even for CNN to repeat, so they mostly ignored it.
That’s an ominous sign if you think about it. It means these people are done trying to convince you, even to fool you.
They’re not making arguments, they’re issuing decrees. They think they can. They no longer believe they need your consent to make big decisions to run the country.
Once the authority stops trying to change your mind, even by deceit, it means they’ve decided to use force – and they have.
During the lockdowns, people whose loved ones died were not allowed to have funerals for them. Think about that. It’s hard to think of anything crueler, but it happened to a lot of people. They claimed it was necessary.
It was not necessary. And we know that because now that a man has died whose death is politically useful to the Democratic Party, the authorities have given him three funerals and not a word about a health risk.
Or consider King County, Wash – that’s where Seattle is. Restaurants in King County are operating at just 25 percent capacity. That’s the law now. Nonessential businesses are allowed just 15 percent capacity.
The effect of that is economic disaster. Most small businesses run on very small margins. They can’t survive for long, and in fact, many have failed.
What should they do? They should join Antifa, obviously, because in King County, Wash., Antifa can do whatever Antifa wants to do.
They have taken over an entire six-block section of downtown Seattle, and that’s fine with health authorities. There is no social distancing required. They’re essential.
Are you getting the picture? Is it adding up to a message? Yes, the message is we were played. We were all played.
Corrupt politicians scared us into giving up control over the most basic questions in our lives.
At the same time, they gave more power to their obedient followers, like Antifa, while keeping the rest of us trapped at home and censored online.
In other words, they used a public health emergency to subvert democracy and install themselves as monarchs. How were they able to do this?
The sad truth is, they did it because we let them do it. We believed them, therefore, we obeyed them.
If there’s anything good to come out of this disaster, it’s that none of us will ever make that mistake again.
Controlled opposition protests have been happening not just throughout the 50 US states but on 3 continents worldwide, from London to Seoul to Melbourne.
Why would the people of Europe, Asia and Australia care so much about the alleged murder of a black man that they would feel compelled to actually take to the streets and protest over it, given the incident didn’t even even happen in their country?
For those following the worldwide conspiracy closely, these kind of things are clues that this whole event – race baiting, agent provocateurs, conveniently dropped off pallets of bricks, looting, Antifa, BLM (Black Lives Matter), government-sanctioned controlled opposition protests and more – is yet another piece of social engineering from the NWO (New World Order) script.
The same old race-baiters are behind the BLM and Antifa violent protests
It’s a blatant divide-and-conquer tactic devised to distract people away from the serious rights and freedoms that are being destroyed under the guise of fighting a pandemic.
It’s a transparent ploy to stoke and then exploit racial tension. So, let’s take a look at how the NWO manipulators are doing it.
Controlled Opposition Protests Actively Encouraged By Government
The first clue things are not as they seem in the Matrix is that numerous government officials have been telling people to protest! That’s right; not only have officials stated they have no problem with people demonstrating, they have actually encouraged and promoted it.
When has government ever done this in the past?
Why on earth would self-interested politicians want people to protest against them unless it was part of their plan?
What self-respecting activist needs to be formally and officially invited by the government to protest?
If red flags haven’t gone up for you when you hear that, you need to seriously develop your skepticism and bullshit detect-o-meter.
What would you think if a bank formally invited thieves to come and rob it that night, and rolled out the red carpet for them to do so?
– its serves the NWO agenda for people to be focused on imaginary, inflated or unimportant issues (race wars) rather than actual and essential issues (the destruction of freedom and inherent rights);
– whether people protest or not, stay at home or not, social distance or not, wear a mask or not etc., has nothing to do with science, reason or logic and everything to do with how it serves the NWO agenda.
For instance, when COVID was the focus in March-May, it served the ruling class for everyone to be OCD and scared of everyone and everything around them.
Now, it serves the ruling class for people to protest, which is why social distancing has dropped off the radar and no one seems to care about enforcing or performing it anymore.
When authorities tell them to stay at home, they obey.
When authorities tell them to be scared (immensely scared), they obey.
When authorities tell them to social distance, they obey.
When authorities tell them to wear a mask, they obey.
Now, when authorities tell them to dutifully protest, they obey.
So tell me: where were all these protestors 3 months ago when a coup was being pulled off to permanently transform society? Hiding in their houses like scared little mice, most of them;
– Social engineers are telling you how to think, how to feel and what you allowed to be angry at.
You’re not allowed to question the scientific basis of the fake pandemic; you’re not allowed to be angry at forced contact tracing surveillance and vaccination; but you may be angry at racism, as long as it’s white on black racism.
How do you like being told what to feel?;
– These controlled-opposition protests are corporate-sponsored. Nike, Amazon and all the big corporate giants can’t tell you fast enough how much they deeply care for black people.
Sure, some of this is good old-fashioned virtue-signalling (look at me, look how pious I am) and market posturing which will be calculatedly exploited to increase profit.
However, it is also more evidence that this entire phenomenon is scripted by the big players who are in on the agenda and are collectively and systematically promoting it;
– As with any MSM-reported event, we have to question everything.
If Floyd was really killed by police officer Chauvin as depicted in the video, is it just a coincidence that they both knew each other and worked as security for the same club (as reported here)?
“We acknowledge, respect, and celebrate differences and commonalities. We work vigorously for freedom and justice for Black people and, by extension, all people.
“We intentionally build and nurture a beloved community that is bonded together through a beautiful struggle that is restorative, not depleting.
“We are unapologetically Black in our positioning. In affirming that Black Lives Matter, we need not qualify our position. To love and desire freedom and justice for ourselves is a prerequisite for wanting the same for others.
“We see ourselves as part of the global Black family, and we are aware of the different ways we are impacted or privileged as Black people who exist in different parts of the world.”
So far, so good. This is to be expected for an organization formed to stand up for Black rights. But look what it goes into next:
“We are guided by the fact that all Black lives matter, regardless of actual or perceived sexual identity, gender identity, gender expression, economic status, ability, disability, religious beliefs or disbeliefs, immigration status, or location.
We make space for transgender brothers and sisters to participate and lead.
We are self-reflexive and do the work required to dismantle cisgender privilege and uplift Black trans folk, especially Black trans women who continue to be disproportionately impacted by trans-antagonistic violence.
We build a space that affirms Black women and is free from sexism, misogyny, and environments in which men are centered.
We foster a queer‐affirming network. When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of heteronormative thinking, or rather, the belief that all in the world are heterosexual (unless s/he or they disclose otherwise).
We dismantle the patriarchal practice that requires mothers to work “double shifts” so that they can mother in private even as they participate in public justice work.
We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.”
Whoa! Wait a minute here. What does standing up for black rights and standing against racism have to do with sexual identity, transgenderism, “cisgender privilege”, feminism, sexism, misogyny and gay rights?
What is going on here?
A good 40-50% of their “What We Believe” page, which is like a mission statement, has absolutely nothing to do with blacks at all!
This is yet another clue that reveals that society is being steered in a certain direction which has nothing to do with genuine care for black people or a genuine desire to stop racism.
Many blacks are getting it, such as Candace Owens and this passionate and intelligent black man who tells his white friends that “All Lives Matter”, that they shouldn’t be feeling any white guilt just for being white and that they should absolutely not buy into the lie that white people today should pay reparations to black people today.
Obama Foundation Foreknowledge? Releases Poster Picture Of George Floyd … 8 Days Before He Dies
George Floyd was a troubled individual and a felon, who had done things in his past such as hold a gun to a pregnant woman’s belly. He apparently had meth and fentanyl in his bloodstream at the time of death. The below tweet from the Obama Foundation is dated May 17th:
Snopes predictably defends the Obama Foundation by claiming Twitter automatically updated the image from the tweet later on. Do you buy that?
Or was there a poster of Floyd prepared at least 8 days before he died? If so, this kind of foreknowledge is typical of psychological operations and false flag events where the entire incident is planned well in advance, the real orchestrators are hidden from public sight and the event is made to look like a random occurrence.
Questions To Consider In Looking Closely At BLM And The Controlled Opposition Protests
In this Instagram video, Tommy Vext does a great short analysis of how this thing works: the MSM focuses on BLM and Antifa, who are in turn funded by Soros, the Clintons and others. Agent provocateurs make it look like normal, peaceful Black Americans are violent and crazy. The same people who orchestrated the event control the MSM to direct people’s perception of it.
1. Why are people protesting in Australia, Korea and the UK over the death of an American black man?
2. Police brutality is rife over-militarized America. It happens all the time. Why is this death different? Why did the George Floyd video suddenly get noticed, and not the dozens of other videos of police being brutally violent? Why is an allegedly grass-roots social revolution enjoying sponsorship as if they were a sports team?
3. Why are we being led to obsess over race?
4. Why are we being led to hyper-focus on the idea that individuals should be defined in terms of their group identity – not their personality or – as Martin Luther King Jr. famously said – the content of their character?
5. As Douglas Murray writes in his article Why I won’t ‘take the knee’, when does this over-correction end? How much longer do white people need to apologize and prostrate themselves at the feet of black people for the crime of being white, even when they are not racist themselves and it’s 100% about what some white people (not even their direct ancestors) did to some black people generations ago?
“The current moment of over-correction appears to consist of an attempt to make all white people confess to some culpability in racist murder …
“Who will tell you when you have over-corrected for long enough?” and “How would you know that you have?” Perhaps most pertinently for the present moment is the question “How would you be sure that this overswing of the pendulum in one direction does not lead to its overswing in the other direction when it starts to head back?””
“An officer with the Saint Paul Police Department has been publicly named by someone identified as the officer’s ex-wife, who said his voice, walk and gas mask made her “90% sure” it was him. The Saint Paul Police Department has denied this. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t, but it is a very safe bet that it’s a law enforcement officer of some kind. Disruptive police infiltration of protest movements is a historical constant in America, after all. It is the norm, not the exception.”
8. Who is pushing the idea of defunding the police? Why? While police brutality is a big problem in America, there is possibly a bigger problem: having no police at all.
This would create a power vacuum and likely lead to either mob rule (with more rioting, looting and theft), martial law or a new kind of force to “keep the order” which could mean national or international police.
If the latter, this would mean new police that are entirely disconnected from the community they are policing and its needs. Is the call to defund the police part of the New World Order strategy to create even less connection between the rulers/enforcers and the rest of us?
Conclusion: Protests Play Right Into The Government’s Hands
These protest and riots are exactly what the government wants. Government is pretty useless at taking care of most things, but if it’s one thing it excels at, it’s taking care of riots.
Governments love violence.
When people get violent, it gives the power-hungry control freak politicians the perfect excuse they need to mobilize the police and military.
Government has way more firepower than the people, so there’s no point fighting them int that arena. It won’t work.
Clearly, the social engineers have certain formulas they use to control the masses. One common tactic is for them to race bait, invoke massive emotion, stir up anger and create social unrest. It’s like flicking a switch.
Just when people were starting to become really fed up and angry with the ridiculous restrictions of the fake pandemic, the NWO controllers decided it was time to inject a new narrative into the mass consciousness. Stay alert and aware.
Nationally, efforts to defund the police have been broadly unpopular, with only about 20 percent of Americans favoring reductions in police forces. Citing publicly available data, commentators have asserted that the very idea of systemic racism by police is questionable.
“In 2018, the latest year for which such data have been published, African-Americans made up 53% of known homicide offenders in the U.S. and commit about 60% of robberies, though they are 13% of the population,” Heather Mac Donald wrote in The Wall Street Journal this week.
“In 2018 there were 7,407 black homicide victims,” she went on. “Assuming a comparable number of victims last year, those nine unarmed black victims of police shootings represent 0.1% of all African-Americans killed in 2019.
“By contrast, a police officer is 18½ times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer.”
Mac Donald continued:
“A 2015 Justice Department analysis of the Philadelphia Police Department found that white police officers were less likely than black or Hispanic officers to shoot unarmed black suspects.
“Research by Harvard economist Roland G. Fryer Jr. also found no evidence of racial discrimination in shootings. Any evidence to the contrary fails to take into account crime rates and civilian behavior before and during interactions with police.”
Fryer’s work has also determined that when police pull out of communities, black deaths tend to increase.
Protests are a regular feature of democratic society, but, as Visual Capitalist’s Nick Routley explores below, they can occasionally cross over from non-violent demonstrations into civil unrest. Even protests that are largely peaceful can still result in arrests, violence, police aggression, and property damage.
Visual Capitalist’s animated map below looks at the last two decades of civil unrest in the United States using lists compiled on Wikipedia.
Instances of civil unrest eventually leave the news cycle, and we rarely have the chance to examine the bigger picture or see where they fit within a nation-wide pattern.
From this map we can see that certain cities, such as St. Louis and Oakland, have been disproportionately impacted by civil unrest. As well, universities have also been hotspots for rioting, though often for much different reasons.
Looking back over two decades, we see that instances of civil unrest in the United States have fallen into roughly four categories:
Economic and social injustice
Sports and event related riots
Politically motivated civil unrest
Reaction to police actions
Let’s take a look at a prominent example in each of these categories, to get further context.
Examples of Civil Unrest, by Category
1. Economic and Social Justice
One of the most prominent examples in this category is the Occupy Wall Street movement. The protests began in September 2011 in Downtown Manhattan, and soon spread through cities throughout the world.
In 2016, the Dakota Access Pipeline protests grabbed headlines around the world as protesters faced off against armed soldiers and police with riot gear and military equipment. By the time camps were broken up the next year, hundreds of people had been arrested.
2. Sports and Event Related Riots
Between 2000 and 2010, the majority of incidents plotted on the map are related to sports and events. This includes major sporting events like the L.A. Lakers championship win in 2000, but also the University of Maryland riot of 2004, where rowdy post-game celebrations crossed over into arson and property damage.
A more recent example is the Philadelphia Eagles’ first-ever Super Bowl victory in 2018, where celebrations eventually got out of hand.
3. Politically Motivated Civil Unrest
The political divide has been growing in America for years now, but those differences more frequently resulted in confrontations and civil unrest in 2016. After the election of Donald Trump, for example, protests erupted in many cities, with riots breaking out in Portland, Oregon, and Oakland, California.
Of course, the “Bundy standoff” – an armed confrontation between supporters of cattle rancher Cliven Bundy and law enforcement over withheld grazing fees – showed that not all civil unrest takes place in America’s cities.
4. Reaction to Police Actions
Some of the biggest flashpoints seen in recent years have been in response to people who were killed by police.
In fact, more than half of the points on our map were a direct response to incidents in which a person – typically a black male – died at the hands of law enforcement officials. In previous years, the unrest that followed was typically confined to the cities where the death took place, but protests are now increasingly erupting in cities around the country.
The Situation Now
The death of George Floyd – the latest black male to be killed during an encounter with law enforcement – has had a ripple effect, spawning protests in cities around the United States and internationally.
As our map showing the history of civil unrest makes clear, excessive force from police against black citizens is nothing new. The data shows that black men have by far the highest risk of being killed in an encounter with law enforcement.
Until these systemic issues are addressed, history may not repeat exactly, but the rhyme will sound very, very familiar
Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL) highlighted Facebook and Twitter’s politically-driven and arbitrary censorship of information, contrasting the platforms’ facilitation of operations executed by Antifa and Black Lives Matter while censoring disagreement with public health authorities’ positions.
West joined Tuesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with host Rebecca Mansour and special guest host Ed Martin to discuss ongoing unrest, protests, and riots following the death of George Floyd.
“What infuriates me more than anything else is that these social media platforms are being used by groups like Antifa and Black Lives Matter to organize, to get out their orders and instructions, but when we had everyday Americans that wanted to have rallies about the unconstitutionality of these stay-at-home orders and the lockdowns and shutdowns — I call it illegal martial law and house arrest — Facebook and Twitter threatened to censor them … Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey need to stop making decisions based upon their ideological agendas.”
“[The killing of George Floyd] was heinous,” West stated. “It was offensive. It was evil. It was tyrannical and despotic to see someone put their entire weight in their left knee on the carotid artery of a man who was handcuffed, and his crime was forgery — $20 bills — not armed robbery, not attempted murder, or aggravated assault. So, he was not armed or any danger to any of those four police officers that were there around him.”
West continued, “There is no excuse for what we see happening in America. It just goes back to the Rahm Emanuel mantra of never letting a good crisis go to waste.”
“Antifa is a domestic terrorist group,” West declared, “and we need to peel the onion back. We need to find the leadership. We need to find the resourcing. Black Lives Matter is no better.
Black Lives Matter does not show up in Chicago or any of the other major urban population centers across the country run by Democrats, where you see black-on-black crime.
“They say nothing about the atrocious fact that 20 million black babies have been murdered in the womb thanks to Planned Parenthood, which was founded by a white supremacist and a racist.”
West went on,
“I see people cherry-picking and using the theme of racism and being a racist to fit an ideological agenda, and we have got to have strong voices to stand up and push back against this. If we cannot maintain law and order in our streets, then we’re going to see the undermining of our constitutional republic.”
“We now have a domestic enemy,” West said.
“We have an enemy that, without a doubt, has declared that they want to undermine this constitutional republic. They want to replace it with a governing system that is completely different.”
West added, “We cannot have these seditious organizations and groups that are running amok in the United States of America and recruiting people.”
November’s elections present a choice between individual sovereignty and collective enslavement, determined West.
“It comes down to understanding the right and true relationship between the individual citizen and the institution of government,” West said.
“In the United States of America, the individual citizens — if you read our Declaration and our Constitution — are sovereign. And why is the individual sovereign? Because their inalienable rights come from their creator, God, not from man.”
West articulated a fundamental distinction between left-wing ideology and conservatism.
“There are people that believe that the institution of government should be supreme and sovereign over the individual, and that’s not what we have in America,” West explained.
“We have to decide, are we going to be individually sovereign or are we going to be collectively subjugated?”
West went on,
“We have to decide, do we want to be victors or do we want to be victims? We have to decide, do we want to be economically empowered or do we want to be economically enslaved? There is no greater time in the history of the United States of America to draw a clear delineation in these two very different philosophies of governance.”
West concluded by noting the links between Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and the Democrat Party.
“Barack Obama said we’re five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America, and they believe that they can do that,” West recalled.
“That’s why you see them out there on the streets, using fear, intimidation, coercion, and violence to get the ends that they want.”
